Trout cannot regulate their body temperature. They tick over same temperature as the water in which they swim. The temperature tolerance levels of trout range between a couple of degrees up to around 20°C.
The metabolism of trout speeds up in warm water and slows down in cold water. That is to say swimming speed depends on water temperature. Generally, they reach top speed in water temperature between 12°C and 16°C.
